The Gnat Display Team at North Weald Airfield 21/02/14 Page 1 of 2
On 21st February 2014, after a "Heads Up", I made my way to North Weald Airfield in Essex. I'd been informed that the Gnat Display Team with their 3 Folland Gnat T.1's were outside their hangar & were being made ready to go flying. Unfortunately I missed the flight of the Ex-Yellowjacks Gnat XR992 but as I arrived XR538, the Red & White Gnat, was being made ready for a couple of flights, the last time it would fly before going in for winter maintenance. The other Gnat, XS111, was also sitting outside its hangar & looked absolutely immaculate in its new paint scheme. It turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with XR538 going up twice & also testing the smoke generators on its second flight. Also and as an added bonus, there were some lovely blue skies!!
